Long back, we went to a certain temple in Thiruvarur District.2 temples in a day.
Koothanur – The town is located at a distance of 25 kilometres from Tiruvarur. A temple for Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning is situated in this place. Koothanur is the only temple in Tamil Nadu for the goddess Saraswati. Saraswati is considered as the goddess of knowledge so people believe that if they worship this deity they will become good in knowledge (source: Wiki)
The second temple we went is Shiva Temple near Poonthottam, Thiruvarur… Though this one is a very old temple, it houses Siva Lingam, Arthanareeswarar, Dakshinamoorthy, Durgai Amman, Bala Murugan, Brahma and Bairavar. These may be old but beautiful idols.
On entering, we can see the Sarguneswarar (Siva Lingam). The Lingam is said to be Swayambu. The Amman statue which is inside the womb house is 5.5 feet height and with 4 hands in a standing position. This is something which I’ve not seen in other temples. The face of the Amman reflects just peace and it will look like saying that she will take care of all our troubles.
Significance: This temple is said and believed to remove the obstacles in marriage, to offer child boon and for excellence in Education.
