Aalayangal: Tiruvarur Temples!

Long back, we went to a certain temple in Thiruvarur District.2 temples in a day.

Koothanur – The town is located at a distance of 25 kilometres from Tiruvarur. A temple for Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning is situated in this place. Koothanur is the only temple in Tamil Nadu for the goddess Saraswati. Saraswati is considered as the goddess of knowledge so people believe that if they worship this deity they will become good in knowledge (source: Wiki)

The second temple we went is Shiva Temple near Poonthottam, Thiruvarur… Though this one is a very old temple, it houses Siva Lingam, Arthanareeswarar, Dakshinamoorthy, Durgai Amman, Bala Murugan, Brahma and Bairavar. These may be old but beautiful idols.

On entering, we can see the Sarguneswarar (Siva Lingam). The Lingam is said to be Swayambu. The Amman statue which is inside the womb house is 5.5 feet height and with 4 hands in a standing position. This is something which I’ve not seen in other temples. The face of the Amman reflects just peace and it will look like saying that she will take care of all our troubles.

  1. Hi there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most
blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S My
apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

    1. Hey Amy,
Extremely sorry that your comment landed in Spam and I didn’t get a chance to look at it so far Have you decided your blog platform?
So far, I’ve been using WordPress alone and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve no idea about B2evolution.

      Thanks for stopping by!
      Cheers 🙂

  2. I haqve bren beߋwsing online more than 2 hiurs today, уеt I never found any
interesting aгticle like youгs. Ӏt’s prеtty worth enough for me.
Personally,if all web owners аnd bloggers made gooԁ content
аss you did, the internet will be much more useful than ᥱver
    before.
